'Life is a thing of many stages and moving parts. What we do with ease at one time of life we can hardly manage at another. What we could not fathom doing when we were young, we find great joy in when we are old. Like the seasons through which we move, life itself is a never-ending series of harvests, a different fruit for every time.' ~ Joan D. Chittister

Whats with squirrels popping into my consciousness online of late every where I look I see pictures of them or video, I even had a conversation about them on another site with a lady from Canada, so some kind of message is trying to be spoken I think but I'm not sure why?
I always loved trips to the beach as a youngster, and even now find great pleasure in finding treasurers in nature...long live the inner child Ametrine
Yes, the smell, my mum and dad didn't much enjoy the crabs legs and shells and bits of seaweed I used to pick up in my little bucket, but I had a nature table and everything was arriving there, so much fun...I had many a smile when I found a stone glossed up by the sea, such excitement. Last beach holiday I had was on the Isle of Man, it was the first time I found a lovely piece of bottle green glass....a new treasure to hold
Oh yeah beach memories, love going to the beach and I go often, just to unwind, walk the sand barefoot, get fresh air in my lungs... as a kid I was like you then Julie, everything came home, smelly or disgusting, my poor Nanny she had her limits, but she did let me bring stuff home that we all could make wind chimes with, shells, dried seaweed & drift wood mostly & any other oddity that would look good tied to strings, and we'd spend the next day making them, oh fun. I still like making stuff, I know it was she who bought out my artistic craft side within nature out in me..
So glad your Nanny gifted you in this way Vlada, she sounds like a wonderful person to have had in your life. My Nan as I called mum's mum had a gift for gardening and I remember well her apple pies. My dad's mum I didn't see often as she lived further away but I think she liked cooking.
My nearest beach is about 40 miles away, so I think that's why I love to go to visit the narrowboat at the marina....water is so relaxing.... we even get waves on the canal around Bridge 80! Wales was my parents go to place, mostly North Wales and sometimes the Wirral coastline when I was a youngster.
Crafting is a good way to enjoy nature and bring on the memories....I have a dish of stones which hold past times and even bits of dried seaweed and the odd crab leg!
Julie

Why are you so afraid of silence,
silence is the root of everything.
If you spiral into its void,
a hundred voices will thunder
messages you long to hear.

Merging
Merging with the earth we blend together
each footstep brings us joy
tell tale signs of autumn creep upon us
a thicker coat I will need to employ
Gone is summer until next year
we must take our rest while we can
lots of cups of hot chocolate
it's all a part of earth's renovation plan

Picking up the Magic
A trip to the beach is magic married in exploration
in finding the beauty in each rocky temptation!
Gathering together the jewelled colours of stone
feeling the rock in fingers and bone
Water washed, shiny and smooth
my little fingers they found each new groove
Limpet shells, cockles galore
oh I love exploring the shore!
