Canal Boats and Holidays
Canal boats form a birds eye view
They come in singles, ones and two's
Moored together sometimes side by side
Hop on board, let's take a ride!
Boats have names like Natalie or Maggie May
There's often pictures or paintings that form part of their play
There's a feminine side to a boat, but some folks change their names
Brave Egbert's an example, it's easy to explain!
Narrowboats are slow, they're not driven very fast
Sometimes it feels like they can drive you into the past
They have chimneys that puff, and engines that hum
Everyone is happy and nobody's glum!
Travelling under low bridges, stopping, mooring up
Taking your ease, or walking your pup!
Being creative or getting a tan
Walking the towpath, frying eggs and ham!
Will the TV work?
It's raining, it's cold
Let's put pen to paper
Tell a story of old
There's a kingfisher, there's a swan
One glimpse of a sighting, then sorry it's gone!
A heron appeared right behind the boat
Everyone looked back in shorthand remote!
We cast off from Basin End, very early one morn
Three ducks swam beside us, we were happy we were born!
The sun was shining, we had food in our bellies
But we were glad we'd packed three pairs of wellies!
The forecast was rain before the end of the day
Then into our beds we'd all gladly lay
The day had been full, the day had been hot
What we needed now was just a small tot!
