Metalheads Are People, Too : The Record : NPR

Music makes us happy. Millions of people can agree on that. But heavy metal?

A genre that is often described as deafening and aggressive, how is can that make people happy? Are the headbanging, beer-drinking and blackclad metal fans even happier than other people? Surely, that can't be.

But psychologist Nico Rose argues the contrary. In his book "Hard, Heavy and Happy" he describes the effects of heavy metal on body, mind and soul. He also explains how what heavy metal opponents often call "noise" helps cope with anxiety and depression.

On this episode of Arts Unveiled, we will explain how the notorious festival venue of Wacken became a sanctuary for metalheads' well-being and how the heavy metal crowd has now even managed to win over the quiet-loving inhabitants of the tranquil village in northern Germany. Heavy Metal becomes Happy Metal. - With hard rock music to a happier life.

Some Comments:-

As a person with social anxiety, I can honestly say that when I go to metal shows it seems like all that social anxiety disappears and I can seemingly talk to anyone as if they were my family, that’s something I feel is unique to metal. When you go to a show to see your favourite bands, it’s not just for the band, it’s also for the people who are gonna be there with you. Even though you don’t know anyone in that venue, for an hour and a half,to 3 hrs everyone there feels like family.

Another thing not mentioned in the report that I really love about a lot of metal music are the themes of fantasy and mythology many bands sing about. It's not all about death and violence. There is some amazing story telling in those songs. And yes, much tragedy as well

Back in the 90s at Donnington, we bumped into a Slayer fan from Spain, we never caught his name, but he came for one band. When the time to go mosh came he asked us if we would look after his bags. All his gear in, money, passport. That bag at that moment was his life and he trusted us enough in the short time we had known him to safeguard that. Which we happily did. I have said for decades metalheads are the nicest people you will ever meet.

I'm 53 years old and have been using metal music for therapy since I was 14. It has helped me deal with anger, loss, and anxiety in that time, and I owe the genre a big thank you for that. I honestly believe it has saved my life. The metal community is a great thing to be a part of, and I'll always love it till I fall off the perch. Long Live Metal.

They really have cool parties. And I must admit that metal really takes inspiration in mythos, There are some inspired by Norse mythology and even by Tolkien.

Amazing documentary.

Metalers are far more in-tune & spiritual & happier people for sure than most people would even think, many of there lyrics in the songs they write are often about saving the planet or helping people..my most favorite metal band I listen to often is  the french band Gojira  they write all their lyrics about history & the planet & looking after it even about offworld planets etc..every song has a hidden message embedded in it..and the drummer Mario François Duplantier  I'd put him up there as one of the best in the world now that others have passed away..

Here's just a few with the lyric's to show it..

Lyrics:-

Last night, alone, I met the moon
I saw its halo and the love around
"Now take the path, don't ever lose your time
Just watch the light you have inside"

I watched inside and my eyes burned
The moon was right
Roots so deep, head so high
I want to be in and watch it out

I know the reasons why I failed
The stars illuminate my being
Behold thy servant, you the force around
that makes the planets be

Lyrics:
Now from a solar system
To another I fly
I come with life in my veins
Through darkened space I ran
I left a struggle behind
And faced the fear that's alive
I lost a world and traveled
Straight across from the sky
To find the gates of the heart
I come to Sirius C
To learn from you friends of old
And wish to come into being
And behold I'm with you
I am ready now to go
The distance and even beyond
Recover all my forces
All the strength of the world
And feel the light into me
From the strength of god
We go to the power of goddess
This place is a throne
For brightness
The age of war is over
For god's sake
The have never heard of you
"You'll never reach
This master race"
Our force sickening
Killing all the time
Human laws
Already slayed many lives.
There is no goal to reach now
Leviathans
No complaint at all
Dolphins from upper space
Are in front of me
In present they dwell
This is my way
I've found my home

Lyrics:-

Waters of chaos
Have invaded all space
The flood on earth again
I have to find the whales
That once did guides us
To dry lands of life
I won't despair
I'll break this dark all around

Under the heavy sea
I'll search the flight of whales

Beneath the seas I searched
And had a different view
Of us on earth
The sinking ship of men
But it's beyond the stars
I found the place
Where they were
And they finally came to light

Over the winds
They dwell in light
Like the arrow in the sky
I found myself on higher grounds
From up here
For I see them always in flight

Now I can see the whales
Looming out of the dark
Like arrows in the sky
I can't believe my eyes
But it's true

Huge tunnel ends in light
Like banks of clouds they gather
See massive shape of flesh
Swimming giants in the clear
The mightiest comes to me
I'm on the wing, wide open
They teach me how to fly
Slowly moving in the air

They dance

So much told with no words at all
Powerful presence for only speech
Breath

Over the winds
They dwell in light
Fly

Multi Dimensional Reality

The world as you know it - all that you see, taste, feel and touch, comprises only about 5% of all of the stuff of the universe. The other 95% is what we have considered "nothing" or the "firmament"  or dark matter or the heavens or mystic Other Worlds. This 95% is multi-dimensional and consists of potential realities that may be perceived.

A single thought...a mere whisper, ...... barely upon a breeze that catches a spark... all is tinder before the firestorm... and yet.
ONLY that whisper
ONLY that thought
the world is forever changed beyond the fears and dreams of cardboard men.
Freedom and change starts within:
It is encouraged by truth and courage of people who love
Built by the respect of true beings standing as one before each other.
Lets us cross every man made borders
without fear stare into eyes and hearts of all our brothers and sisters: within our words without shouting,or force to hold each to our truths; and let us without fear freely share what works...
