Yes they are kinda like the normal pigeons I also raised some that had fallen from my neighbours palm tree, mother pigeons dont feed their young on the ground, so if they fall they are a gonna, eaten by cats n dogs, well when they try to fly onto the neighbours roof, but they arnt ready to fledge let alone land on a iron roof and so they slide slide down it and plop straight into my section..that was fun n games,so how do you feed a young unready to fledge pigeon, let me tell you how, you get a rubber glove and stretch it over a jar that has a slurry mix of warm water soaked hen pellets & ground up cooked vegatables and millet seeds, then you cut a slit in the centre of the glove, and shove the pigeons beak into it,hold its head back and it runs in,they feed like its their mothers mouth open beaked..lol it was a mess but it worked..they all grew up and flew off back up into the neighbours palm tree again when they were grown up & released..

here's a link for our pigeon friends in UK
our wood pigeons as we see them in the garden
Well I have a normal pet pigeon I rescued him last year with a broken leg and the Kereru would be twice its size.,..so use him as a scale to get an idea of their size, its no wonder the ancient Maori used to eat them like chickens till they were near extinction..now they are a protected specie or they would be gone in the same way like the Moa went..
ahhh bit bigger than our feathered friends here Vlada, I very often see the pigeons around the garden and unfortunately often seen dead on the roads too...it seems a time of year when they are more prone, perhaps breeding season when the females are big and full. One smashed into the kitchen window and stunned itself so badly I found it on the slabs a few years ago. I've read that if the bird can see light it thinks it can fly through, so perhaps the kitchen door to the hall was open and he could see right through to the light coming through the front door
I dont know if he was asleep I couldn't zoom in any further, but it wouldn't surprise me if hes been eating the berries around town..it was just amazing to see him in my tree, I was blown away..I havn't seen one in so long and then bam! there he is..they are huge birds, not like your normal pigeon, more like a chicken..
He does looked very plumped up, is he asleep...pigeons plump up I believe to insulate/sleep...he certainly seems to like being in the tree Vlada
The world as you know it - all that you see, taste, feel and touch, comprises only about 5% of all of the stuff of the universe. The other 95% is what we have considered "nothing" or the "firmament" or dark matter or the heavens or mystic Other Worlds. This 95% is multi-dimensional and consists of potential realities that may be perceived.
A single thought...a mere whisper, ...... barely upon a breeze that catches a spark... all is tinder before the firestorm... and yet.
ONLY that whisper
ONLY that thought
the world is forever changed beyond the fears and dreams of cardboard men.
Freedom and change starts within:
It is encouraged by truth and courage of people who love
Built by the respect of true beings standing as one before each other.
Lets us cross every man made borders
without fear stare into eyes and hearts of all our brothers and sisters: within our words without shouting,or force to hold each to our truths; and let us without fear freely share what works...
