The Tree that lived in a field

I'm not sure why but the tree was meant to be there

a track led past the tree, an old farm track with a little wear

Cows nibbled the tree, by reaching up their heads

a line became the norm, on this tree they were fed

A Hawthorn which grew into three trunks to yield

sufficient food for the cows in the field

We used to walk there, across and beyond

through a dateless gate that we gazed upon

Photos came so easily there

we used to stand, sad times were rare

The modern mixed with the ancient signs

electrical wires all strung high in lines

There is a  little brook where a sheep dog played

I took photos of him, in position I stayed

Memories come, sometimes they slide away

but I know I felt better the longer I played
