Well, I’m glad to hear you’re not evil! But What is a psychic vampire? It sounds really scary, like a girl I knew once who just put other people down. I hope you’re not talking about that!
It should sound scary, evil psi vamp can be really dangerous, in the rarest occasions, but not impossible, even mortaly dangerous.
I think that many more than just vampires can drain energy from others, but for vampires it is base of their definition. We bite or some other way connect with our prey/donnor and we take some energy from them, pranic/chi/mana... and use it for ourselves or for other purposes. We don't create enough for ourselves, at least I tend to be silent and quiet person with low emotional experience. vampirism allows to gain some extra energy vor me to be healthy and many vamps need to drain energy to be healthy. Not much, not often, but it is that rite, which is the necessary thing. Some however need more and can drain human into exhaustion, even to loose of consciousness.
I cannot tell how much it is under controll of vampire as I'm not sure and it is individual too.
But some of us really live by some honorable code, while some refuse to and some simply didn't even realise that hey are vamps. It isn't state that cannot be changed, but those who are meant to be vamps, on some level desire it, be it as experience, lesson, or pleasure of spirit, or anything else.
I dare to compare it to sex, as it also is dance of energy, share of it. But both can be done together.
You can protect against psi vamp, after all, decent vamp should ask for allowing to bite and drain you, but when not, you can use shields, that way you create enrgy barrier so vamp usually takes energy from the barrier, works for me to make my skin so thick that their fangs cannot bite through as I love imagination of vampire bitting neck and drinking blood...
I think that there are many more types of vamps, but that goes for all kins.
